Life and Work with Vesta Kinsale
Today we’d like to introduce you to Vesta Kinsale.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Vesta. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I always say my passion for fashion is inherited, both of my parents grew up in a time and area within Trinidad, where they didn’t have much, but they had their creativity, my dad to this day talks about how he designed my moms wedding dress, which she looked so amazing in, and my mom is not only a designer but she also can sew and construct anything she imagines without the use of a pattern, and without having received any education in fashion. Fashion runs through my veins, it’s in my blood.
Growing up, I wanted to be a supermodel, and I always tried to dress the part and I always had a love for fashion. Starting at the age of 16, I worked in my oldest sister’s salon to earn money to buy myself the clothes and shoes I wanted, that my parents couldnt afford to buy me. I remember my high school days, and how much I loved going downtown, Atlanta, to shop all the popular stores and alot of times putting my items on layaway, lol.
My passion for fashion lead me to Bauder College for Fashion Design, even though my designs and sketches stood out, and got attention from my peers, family, and friends, I lacked confidence, I couldnt comprehend how I was going to turn my clothing line into a profitable business that I could live off of solely. I eventually dropped the ball and my dream deferred.
I decided to go to school for hair since I was so good at it and I had a history of working in shops since I was 16 years old. I became a Master Cosmetologist, and I am proud to say that my hairstyling skills are top-notch. Being a hairstylist has taught me valuable entrepreneurial skill sets. Growing my clientele from nothing has given me confidence and assurance that with time and patience if I do my best work I can build a stable business.
So now, nine years later, I am confidently picking up the ball, believing in myself, investing in myself, and pushing myself to finally starting my clothing line this past June. Not only am I the owner, but I am the model and face of my brand and the hairstylist for all photoshoots or imagery put out.
Every skill set that I have attained in life works hand in hand in my entrepreneurial aspirations. Every struggle, and the lack of confidence that has been built up, all in all, was necessary to build me into the woman necessary to believe in my vision and go after it.
Has it been a smooth road?
I started my line in June and I would say the hardest thing is to have patience and to be consistent in the building process, so just have patience even if your friends and family don’t support you like you probably thought they would, just know there are millions of other people in the world that will support you, have patience and continuously promote yourself no matter what.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with VEV COLLECTIONS – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
